A defining quality of the team at the Sanders Composites is that we listen. We listen so that we can understand a client’s needs and requirements above and beyond the supply of product – in order for us to be able to develop a unique partnership formula that works on every level.
Here’s a case in point of how we listened and responded to some very specific project requirements…
A particular customer has a proprietary manufacturing specification for space critical parts that no known composites supplier could meet. To process the parts to the specification, the work scope commenced by building a new clean room manufacturing cell inside Sanders’ current manufacturing facility. Tight tolerance on the environmental controls was a must, namely extremely low humidity to process a space grade composite foam core well known to be susceptible to moisture.
In addition to the stringent environmental controls, Sanders Composites added two laser projectors in the cell.
The custom-built work cell is used to manufacture 24 production structural parts for a space application. Manufacture includes kitting, layup of the laminates and core, autoclave cure, post cure, ultrasonic inspection, CNC machining and installation of inserts on the majority of the parts.
Since completion of the installation Sanders Composites has been supplying production parts to a fixed process, manufactured uniquely to our customer's specification.
Our initiative enabled the customer to close down their internal cell, freeing up the manufacturing space to support other internal projects.
Definitely a win-win all round!
